Game of Gladiators is far more forthright to play than it is trying to explain in words. What's important for players to understand is that it's a high variance slot which basically means it can leave you with some pretty nasty battle scars if you decide to go in fast and hard.
While the main game has some intriguing features, the payouts are usually not all that impressive. Rather, all the considerable wins can be had from the Enter the Arena Battle free spin feature where you can win up to 5,000 times your stake.
This slot is like art: the graphics are well-rendered, there are plenty of authentic details and all in all, Game of Gladiators is a visual spectacle. Now the gameplay may sound more complicated than it is in practice, so players are recommended to try this slot for free first before playing the real deal.
The game has plenty of features that help you land winnings. The free spins feature is distinct and fresh, and it is just awesome that the game developer was able to process a gladiatorial battle in this manner in a video slot. Safe to say, players should definitely put this on on “Autoplay.”
Game of Gladiators may sound complex, but don’t get intimidated. You’ll soon get the hang of things once you start spinning those reels. In the base game, you can win up to 500 times your stake if you fill the reels with wilds.
Players will see A, K, Q and J royals on the reels aside from the gladiators Scissor, Provocator, Murmillio, and Rectiarus. The latter (Rectiarus) is the most lucrative symbol giving you 2, 4 or 20 times your stake for 3, 4 or 5 in combination. The tiger symbol is the wild and performs the usual substituting duties – it also is the highest paying symbol in the slot with 2.5, 5 or 25 times your stake for 3, 4 or 5 on a payline.
Primus Mystery Features
During the base game, you can benefit from 1 of 5 randomly triggered Primus mystery features – here’s what you can expect:
Fame feature = a Gladiator symbol is selected and a bonus payout is awarded using the Battle Prize paytable
Spear Attack feature = between 3 and 6, random tiger wilds are added to the reels.
Sword Attack feature = reel 1 is duplicated 2 to 4 times to display the same symbols. This can result in all 5 reels showing the same symbols.
Net Attack feature = all Gladiator symbols of a kind are held with 1 free re-spin awarded.
Enraged feature = 2 fully expanding tiger wilds are randomly added (i.e. 2 wild reels).
Enter the Arena Battle
Game of Gladiators also comes with the Enter the Arena Battle feature – this is triggered when you get 3 Portcullis scatters on reels 1, 3 and 5 simultaneously. You then select a Champion that replaces the Portcullis scatter – you can choose between the Spartacus scatter (male Champion) or the Amazonia scatter (female champion). That chosen Champion is the scatter for the duration of the feature.
You will then get free spins until the battle is won or lost – the battle starts each time a scatter lands on the reels. Any matching high-value symbols that land on the reels will be grouped together at the top of the reels on the Battle Meter. The bigger the group, the larger the Battle prize.
Every scatter that lands will mount 1 attack on a group of gladiator symbols and, in the process, destroyed that group. If 2 scatters land, 2 groups are attacked with 3 scatters attacking 3 groups. 2 or 3 scatters landing will apply a 2x and 3x multiplier (respectively) to the Battle prize.
The battle is won if all groups are destroyed – the battle is lost if the groups fill the Battle Meter. Every time a scatter and high-value gladiator lands on the reels, the high-value gladiators are added to the Meter. The free spins continue until the Battle is over.
Furthermore, each champion has a different Victory Prize if they win their battle – Amazonia gives you a prize of between 20 and 100 times your stake whilst Spartacus retriggers the Enter the Arena Battle feature to give you another chance to win.
