Jolly Roger is an online slot from Play ‘n Go that celebrates the life on the high seas as a pirate. It has five reels and 15 paylines and the backdrop to the reels is unsurprisingly, a pirate ship. In the distance, a silhouetted craft drifts across the horizon.

To join a pirate crew and set sail, you must first need to select your bet first. Pressing “Coin Value” changes the denomination, which ranges from 0.01 to 1. “Coins” changes the number of coins wagered, while “Lines” picks the number of activated payline. “Spin” gets the game started, while “Bet Max” turns reels at the highest wager. Clicking “Auto Play” will turn the reels for a number of times without any interruption.

Speaking of this game’s sound effects, the reels sound mechanical, with the clicking noise very audible as they spin and land. At the same time, the slot itself is very much a video-based one, not attempting to recreate the mechanical look at all.

The symbols on the other hand, are rendered bright and clear, and the animations are plain – like for example, the swords crossing. Each win has a corresponding sound effect with it as well. The cannons fire and the gold coins play a calypso tune. When you hit the bonus games, there are animations and break out screens. Once again, these are all fairly basic, the kind of games which might have been considered new at the tail end of the 1990s when video slots were still new.

Although Jolly Roger hardly brings anything new to the table, it does score high for doing the fundamentals well enough and for its overall smooth gameplay.

This slot is worth a spin if you enjoy Play ‘n Go slot titles, or pirate themed slots – though certainly not up in the range of the best ones.

The graphics may not be absolutely premium here but there’s a distinct cartoonish appeal to Jolly Roger which most games should appreciate, even if only for a little while.
