The wide savannah, the wild animals and the endless sky can only mean one thing: you’re on an African safari! On this occasion though, you are on the great continent of Africa and you’re there to take photos of the regal animals that are grazing on the Serengeti. That’s the premise of Photo Safari — an online slot from Play ‘n Go.
Photo Safari features five reels and 20 paylines and those reels spin in a wooden frame through which you can see a wide grassy plain with a majestic mountain looming off in the distance.
But before you can begin you begin this fantastic safari adventure, you must first need to adjust your bet first. “Coin Value” sets the coin size, which goes from 0.01 to 0.25. While “Coins” regulates the number of coins bet, “Lines” selects the number of activated paylines. “Spin” turns the reels, “Bet Max” spins them at the maximum bet and “Auto Play” turns the reels multiple times without interruption.
The transparent reels over a savannah background fit this game to a T. When you land a winning combination with any of the animals, they become a retro-style physical photo that is making the apt animal noise. These sounds are complemented by the ambient insect noises of the savannah, along with some drums. Animals sport a cartoonish look to them, with the lion, in particular, looking very vain. There are other nice touches that stand out, such as the free spins round being held with reels make to look like photo negatives.
Photo Safari is a fine example of a nicely put together slot that does not really stand out in a marketplace filled with over-the-top games. The game’s theme is light and yes, a little bit quirky, although once you have gone the bonus games a couple of times, there is nothing particularly compelling that would make gamers return. Having said all that, for a quick spin or for something different the next time you are feeling lucky – Photo Safari would a slot worth spending an hour or two on.
The basic symbols are 10, J, Q, K and A carved out of pieces of wood but the higher value symbols are a range of cheerful-looking animals. There’s a zebra, a giraffe, an elephant, and a lion, all of which look too friendly to be able to defend themselves in the real wild. There’s also a camera that activates the bonus game, a roll of film scatter, which turns the free spins and a wild symbol displaying a shield and drums.
Landing three or more of the film scatter symbols anywhere on the reels during the basic game will spark the free spins feature. You will receive a generous fifteen free spins and a nice touch is that the reels all turn into rolls of film when the reels spin. Unfortunately, you can’t win more free spins while playing this bonus round.
Photo Shoot Bonus Round
This is an interesting mini-game and it’s initiated when you land three of the camera bonus symbols on an active payline. You’ll be taken to a screen where you look through a camera viewfinder to try and spot photo opportunities in the long grass. Once you’ve taken three pictures, you will receive a cash prize depending on the animals you discovered.
